Ships Are Meant for Sailing There is a saying about a ship being safe in the harbor, but that ships are meant for sailing. They are not built to stay anchored and never travel the seas.
We are also meant to sail. We are designed to participate fully in life.
As we sail our ship through life, it's important for us to remember that getting somewhere isn't what life is about. We're not in a race to see who gather the most toys, the most money, or live in the biggest house.
Life isn't about attaining mastery and siting on the top of a moutain watching the rest of the world struggle. Rather, we are happiest when we share what we have learned and keep on sailing.
Environmental Issues and Nature preservation. Many things have changed around the South Coast over the last few decades, unfortunately some of those changes affected the environment around us in a negative way. It is up to all and each one of us to work together towards preserving our natural resources for the enjoyment of future generations.
Donations are a good way to help, but if you would like to get involved and get your hands dirty check out these groups and see what you can do to help and all the ongoing activities such as:
- A one-day shoreline cleanup.;
- Help monitor the waters, educate our youngsters or even get legislation passed;
- Spring plantings;
- Experienced SCUBA diver? How about assist with field research on eelgrass restoration?
There are many other things you can do to help.
Few of My Favorite Quotes.... "As we travel along our path, we find other like-minded people to support and uplift us, but ultimatetly, each of us is responsible for our journey." Unknown
"The meaning of life is creative love. Not love as an inner feeling, as a private sentimental emotion, but love as a dynamic power moving out into the world and doing something original."
--Tom Morris, from his book "If Aristotle Ran General Motors" 1997.
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
--Mahatma Gandhi
"When you cease to make a difference you start to die."
--Eleanor Roosevelt
"It is not the years in your life that counts but the life in your years."

Golf!
Being myself a sports fan could not understand for the heart of me the passion many people have for Golf. Even though I was exposed to the sport from an early age always saw this 'sport' as boring and slow, nothing required but to put a ball in a hole... not much of a sport after all....well that all changed one spring (2005) when I started learning and got the bug into my veins. Now can't wait for the cold to go away and start taking lessons again. Still a far cry from playing the 18 holes. At least now I understand the passion and the heart of the aficionados.
The South Coast has some of the finest golf courses in the East - from Plymouth to Swansea, from Norton to Dartmouth, there are over 30 courses in the region. Many are open year round to cater the die hard golfer who don't let the winter season deter them from their beloved game.

Save the Bay
Save The Bay was founded on the community’s desire to protect our most precious resource - Narragansett Bay. Children and adults throughout this region have learned the tremendous value the Bay brings to our economy, our environment and our quality of life.
"Educator takes students and families along the Bay teaching them why the seals enjoy Narragansett Bay. Along the tour, people see the Rose Island Lighthouse, which was decrepit and abandoned many years ago and that was refurbished with the work of Save the Bay and the Rose Island Foundation."

Protect our beaches and parks... Yes, I know Summer is gone again!!! but, just because we are not able to spend our days laying lazy under the summer sun or enjoying those same summer days surrounded by friends playing soccer, baseball, football, volley, fishing, flying, sailing or just chilling, eating and drinking does not mean life will stop.
Life goes ahead even in the coldest days of winter. Of course many of us won't be there to see the changes that fall and winter will bring. The young birds perfecting their skills to have a chance to survive when winter comes and cover the rocks with snow.
The young birds that were able to improve their skills during the Fall will now be put into a harder test and that is surviving until next spring. The adult birds will still be flying over the ocean looking for a good catch, fishes will come closer to get plankton, algae and other small fishes, some seals will approach the coast aware that humans are not around looking for food and warmer waters, the flowers will go into a dormant period until next spring comes back to wake them and they will again welcome us with their sweet smell.
The last thing this wonderful ecosystem needs is to get hurt and killed by our trash, bottles, plastic bags, hooks, fish lines and nets, all kind of junk that you can thing of.
Please respect this nature that gives you so much enjoyment and
PICK UP YOUR TRASH. DON'T BE UNCOMFORTABLE TO REMIND SOMEONE ELSE TO PICK THEIRS TOO.
Do your part. Doesn't matter if it might seem too little and won't make a difference. You see.... if your pick up your trash, I pick up mine, the next person pick up theirs and so on there will be no trash left... a little done for each one will become an enormous change in our environment and in our future.
PLEASE keep our beaches, parks, trails, sanctuaries clean so wildlife don't have to suffer because of our disrespect towards it.
FISHERMAN please collect your hooks, fish lines and nets. Also pick up those plastic bags that you used to brings your snacks in.
When drinking whatever is you are drinking collect your bottles. DON'T BREAK THEM and leave the pieces there. Remember there are some of us that walk bare foot on the beach and kids are all around.
We all own this planet so it is everybody's job to keep it clean.
Nature appreciates your cooperation and promises that will be back next summer to welcome you again to its marvelous days....
